Wakayama Castle
(Wakayama-jo)
The warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi ordered this castle constructed for his younger brother Toyotomi Hidenaga. The walls are largely of local greenstone. The top of the donjon provides a fine view of Wakayama City and the Kinokawa River.

Engetsu Island
(Engetsu-to)
This little island looks like the two humps of a dromedary and has a cave in the middle; its real name is Takashima Island, but it has come to be called Full Moon Island. It measures but 65 by 29 meters, and has become famous for its white sand beach.

Nachi Katsu-ura Spa
(Nachi Katsu-ura)
This hotspring resort is located at the southern end of the Kii Peninsula. In times past, the spa was a favorite place for pilgrims making the arduous trip to the Kumano Shrine, but today it is a remote and quiet resort (as compared to the highly developed spa towns). Outdoor baths, baths with commanding views of the countryside, and the like - the town has a type of bath for every taste.
