Measuring, Cutting: Rice straw is bound with paper and left to dry before being cut into the required lengths. |
Shaping: Next, it is cut to shape using a knife. |
| Body Assembly: Pieces of wire are threaded through the torso to make a core for the arms and legs. Cotton wool or other stuffing is used to give form to the limbs before they are covered with handmade Japanese paper. |
Dressing: The dolls are then dressed and the clothes are padded out with cotton wool. |
Bending the Arms: The arms are bent and arranged in the required position. |
| Fixing the Head: The head is then fitted to the body. However, because of a system of division of labor in Shizuoka, it is actually becoming more common to dispatch the bodies as they are without their heads. |
Finishing: Any accessories are attached to finish the doll. |
