Stage One
Measuring: Measuring it against a ruler, the bamboo is cut with a fine tooth saw.

Stage Two
Splitting: Having removed the skin of the bamboo, it is split to the required size with a straight, narrow-bladed hatchet.

Stage Three
Thicknessing: The split pieces are now put through a thicknesser.

Stage Four
Bending a Ring: A ring of bamboo is made by warming and bending the material.

Stage Five

Splints: Narrow splints are made by splitting pieces of bamboo with a knife. The end is then shaved.

Stage Six

Round Splints: Round splints are made by passing the pieces of bamboo through a hole in a metal sheet.

Stage Seven
Bending: Splints are bent using a hot iron.

Stage Eight
Opening Holes: Holes for the splints are made in the ring of bamboo.

Stage Nine
Assembly: The splints are passed through the holes in the ring to complete assembly.
